For adult learners

Professional qualifications tutoring

Professional exams are sat around a full-time job, on your own time, usually with nobody checking whether you understood the last topic. Tutor Island connects you with tutors who teach these papers one-to-one, including people who have sat and passed them.

How it works for adult learners

The platform works the same way whoever you are. Browsing is free and so is messaging. You find a tutor who teaches your exam, send them a message saying which paper you are sitting and when, and they reply. Nothing is charged while you work out whether they are the right fit.

When a tutor accepts and you decide to go ahead, you pay a one-off £9.99 to connect and unlock their contact details. That is the only payment Tutor Island ever takes. We charge no commission on lessons, now or later, and the tutor sets their own hourly rate and keeps all of it. What you arrange after connecting is between you and them.

Timelines matter more for professional exams than for school ones, because sittings are fixed and revision has to fit around work. Say so in your first message. A tutor who cannot take on your deadline would rather tell you before you pay to connect.

What we cover

Professional qualifications sit alongside every school subject on the platform, as their own category with their own tutors. That covers the accountancy and finance route through CFA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT and CTA, the risk and actuarial side through FRM and the Actuarial exams, and the legal route through the SQE.

Accountancy and finance
  • CFA
  • ACCA
  • ACA
  • CIMA
  • AAT
  • CTA
Risk and actuarial
  • FRM
  • Actuarial exams
  • Quantitative finance
Law
  • SQE
People and procurement
  • CIPD
  • CIPS
Insurance and mortgages
  • CII
  • CeMAP

It also covers the professions that get overlooked by tutoring sites: CIPD for people, CIPS for procurement, CII for insurance, and CeMAP for mortgage advice. If your qualification is not named here, tutors can list it under other professional qualifications, so it is worth searching before you assume we do not cover it.

Tutors set out which papers or levels they teach on their profile, so you can see whether someone covers the specific stage you are sitting rather than the qualification in general.

Why our background checks still matter to you

Every tutor on Tutor Island passes a background check for their UK nation, reviewed by a person, before their profile is visible to anyone. That rule exists because children use this platform, and it does not get relaxed when the student is an adult.

We are not going to claim a CFA tutor needs clearing in order to teach you. The honest version is simpler: the requirement means every tutor you can message has been identity checked and vetted before they could list at all, so as an adult learner you inherit a marketplace built to a higher trust bar than it needed to meet for you.
